The Malta Uphill Challenge 2019

in aid of Inspire

The Uphill Challenge is a cycling event whereby the participants try to raise money for a local charity. Over the past 5 years the event has attracted hundreds of participants and spectators in similar events in Luxembourg and Curaçao and for the first time ever the event is going to be hosted in Malta on November 24th of 2019.

The goal of the event is to raise money for charity by climbing the Miġra l-Ferħa hill as many times as possible within a 3 hours’ time frame. The course is approximately 1.6 km long. Over this distance, you climb approx. 500 meters with a maximum slope of 12,3%.

During the race all riders will have a digital tracking device fitted on their bike that will track very accurately the number of climbs you make and your time per lap. At the end of the race we will have a ceremony for the top 3 riders (overall) that have raised the highest amount of sponsor money and both a top 3 for men and woman with the most number of laps completed.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Riders are encouraged to find sponsors for their effort during this 3 hour long endurance ride which can either be on a ‘per climb’ basis or on a fixed amount for the whole race. You can for instance ask your friends, colleagues and family to sponsor you for a certain amount every time you ride up and down the mountain. The truly dedicated sponsor ‘go getters’ can also decide to contact their employer or other companies to sponsor them per climb or maybe even for a fixed amount when they fulfill the 3 hour endurance ride.

Riders are not obliged to keep on riding during this 3 hour window and are allowed to take as many breaks as needed. Only bicycles driven by muscular strength may be used during the Uphill race.

THE CHARITY

All the profits of the uphill challenge 2019 edition will go to the Inspire Foundation whereby we specifically dedicate this year’s funds to a project on their Gozo facility. The classroom is in need of urgent upgrading in order for the children to have proper and suitable furniture and other learning needs.

HOW TO ENROL

On the morning of the race, you will need to pay a registration fee of 10 EUR.
